The BET Awards were full of surprises, electric performances, moving tributes, crazy comedy, and OMG acceptance speeches. Here is our list of the 7 best moments from the show and a few moments we’d like to forget

  • Chris Rock SLAYed on stage last night as host! His one liners about the infamous “Elevator-gate” almost made me fall off my couch. “We’re kicking balls like Solange!” He showed no mercy.
  • John Legend’s music is the soundtrack to my dreams. Chrissy Teigen’s man nailed it last night with his performance of my new fave “You and I”.
  • Yolanda Adams turned the Nokia Theatre into a place of worship! The reigning Queen of Gospel brought the house down with her rendition of “Jesus is Love” during the Lionel Richie tribute.
  • Breezy is BACK! In the best surprise of the night, Chris Brown rocked the stage performing another one of my faves, “Loyal”, after his stint in the slammer. And, yes, it’s no surprise that he killed it! I’m rooting for Chris and hopes he turns his life around this time.
  • Jennifer Hudson’s sassy performance was a nice addition to the show! It’s good to finally see JHud perform songs worthy of her amazing talent. Oh, and I’m so loving her Peter Pan pixie hair cut!
  • Lil Wayne’s oldest child, Reginae, is all sorts of adorbs! Her valley girl meets Buckhead meets Bankhead intro to Wayne’s acceptance speech was way cute! She’s growing into a beautiful young lady right before our eyes.
  • The montage honoring the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was phenomenal and reminded us all of the noble sacrifices made by so many.

And…Here are a few moments we could have totally done without:

  • Why did Iggy Azalea lip-synch and use a backing track during her performance? This is especially perplexing since she’s a rapper and not a singer. What was the point?
  • I’m so over Robin Thicke’s tears. Mr. Thicke, if I see one more begging ‘I want my wife back’ performance, I’m going to suspect a break-up publicity stunt.
  • Only Nicki Minaj can give a speech mentioning girl power while jabbing rappers who don’t write their own lyrics. Classic shade with a smile – We love you Nicki, but no more passive-aggressive rants okay?
  • I love Lupita, but really wanted to see Kerry Washington win the Best Actress Award. Hopefully the coming year will bring more statues her way!
